Bringing Hope: A Disaster Relief Journey

Excerpt from Chapter Five - Heartfelt Wishes from Friends and Family

October 15, 2001

Just to drop you a line and say thank you for your service and dedication! Until we read your first email we had no idea of what the real actors were doing backstage. I guess we looked at the rescue and recovery efforts and did not look beyond the visual carnage. We did not understand what recovery really meant. You have opened up our eyes with your diary and we don’t enjoy reading it. Yet I wait with anticipation to hear of your progress to complete a case. I have told others of the challenge which you have taken on and they shake their heads and say who would want to volunteer to do that. I must say that I’m not at all surprised by your willingness to accept this task since you have been with Red Cross numerous years, but I think you must agree the magnitude of this operation was larger than anything you have previously done. Thanks, Deb, for your time and effort toward the healing of this country, we here are all very proud of your work, and the work of other volunteers.

God Bless You All, Claude, Carol, Colleen, and Carrie
